Show Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Philena Pickett Friday, July 28 Funeral services were held in the south ward chapel at 4 p.m. last Friday for Mrs. Philena Pickett, who died at her home July 27, of heart ailment after a prolonged illness. Bp. Andrew McArthur presided, the following program was provided: Duets, "Prayer Perfect" and "In The Garden" by Melba Baker and Ruth A. Miles; "O, My Father", Mamie Paxman and Viola Gentry, and prayers by James. McArthur and Jos. W. Webb of Hurricane, formerly close neighbors of the family. Mrs. Ada Cannon presided at the pipe organ. The speakers were George W. Worthen, Pres. Harold S. Snow of the St. George Temple and Bp. Andrew McArthur. Mr. Worthen delivered a sermon on salvation of the soul, offering scriptural quotations quo-tations suggestive of the life of the deceased and dwelling on the responsibility of mankind to prepare pre-pare for the spiritual life hereafter. here-after. President Snow read "Looking Backward", "If This Were All" and "My Religion" from the pen of Edgar A. Bishop McArthur made a brief summation of the services and thanked all who had given assistance assist-ance during Mrs. Pickett's illness and death, in behalf of the family. There were numerous tributes and floral offerings and the chapel was filled to capacity with relatives and friends, many coming com-ing from La Verkin and Hurricane to attend. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Julian and Arlo Hall, of Pine Valley; Wendell and Gerald Hall, of Hurricane, and Evan and Elmer Pickett, of St. George. The prave in the city cemetery was dedicated by Brig-ham Brig-ham Jarvis Jr. |
