Show ; Road To Dameron Valley May Be Constructed By St. George CCC Camp Must Receive Approval Of Grazing Board; Good Roads Built By CCC's Cited By Directors A possibility of securing the cooperation co-operation of the St. George CCC camp boys in the building of the road to Dameron Valley was expressed ex-pressed by R. M. Reber. president of the St. George Chamber of Commerce, yesterday. Mr. Reber explained that the Chamber of Commerce had approached ap-proached the various groups connected con-nected with the building of this road and found that if the District Grazing board would recommend this as a work project for the camp there would be a possibility of getting this work underway. The heavy equipment needed for the job has been lined up and if the camp boys, under the direction of Superintendent Dan Thompson, are given the word to go ahead, the directors feel that at least they will be able to say that something some-thing concrete is being done. A Major Project This year's Chamber oi Commerce Com-merce directors designated this road as their major project and for this reason they have beer, concentrating con-centrating their attention on getting get-ting some action. They state they feel that this is the greatest need of the county at this time and are puting forth every effort to have it built. The state road commissioners commis-sioners have been approached from every angle and while the road commissioners recognize the need for this road, they have not been brought to the point of appropriating appro-priating money for it. Build Fine Roads Superintendent Thompson's boys have built some fine roads. Roads that the director? say are much better than the one now being used to go from here to Dameron Valley, so that they are satisfied that a good road will be made if the okeh is given by the Grazing board. Some hesitancy was shown by the board since they expressed expres-sed their belief that the road would be built eventually anyway and that there were so many projects pro-jects that were needed on their range, said Mr. Reber. Citizens of this county have talked and worked for this road for so long without getting any action that many have become discouraged. dis-couraged. Senator Glenn E. Snow, in discussing this subject with the News' editor, recently declared that he and Rep. W. B. Mathis recognized the great need for the road and worked hard to put over a program that would assure it. He declared that he believed that it could be brought about if enough concentrated action was brought to bear. At that time he suggested the possibility of secur-( secur-( Continued on page eight I Dameron Valley Road (Continued rrom first page) ing the CCC camps to do part of the work just as the Chamber of Commerce directors are now attempting at-tempting to have them do Paying Rent The St. George Chamber of Commerce is paying $25 a month rent for the St. George camn While this will amount to a 'considerable 'con-siderable part of their available funds the directors have felt hat this City and section will be wel repaid for the money thus spen |
