Show Quick Action By Sheriff Nabs Man Accused Of Forgery Quick work on the part of Sheriff Antone Prince yesterday brought the arrest of D. Wood, accused ac-cused forger, after he had passed a check in the amount of $26 at the John Day Service station in Enterprise. Receiving the telephone message mes-sage that Wood had forged the check, Sheriff Prince deputized Charles Bastain and started for Enterprise. He met him just this side of Dameron Valley, stopped him by blocking tne road, and made the arrest. Mrs. Day became suspicious of Wood when he had ordered his tank filled and then offered the check in return. She had given him $5 in change and gone for the balance, but when she returned Wood was gone. She immediately phoned the sheriff, telling him that the man indicated that he was going to Modena, was driving driv-ing an old car and was wearing a tan shirt. She said that he had a small mustache. Investigation revealed that Wood had tried to pass the check before, but was unable to do so. He is lodged in the county jail and is to be charged with forgery, for-gery, Sheriff Prince said. |
