Show Committees Make Plea For Better 1938 Program Recommendations for the 1938 agricultural conservation program for Utah as drawn up at the Utah State Agricultural College last week at a three-day conference of farmers and representatives of agencies serving farmers were announced an-nounced this week by Director William Peterson, in charge of the AAA for the state. The conference listed seven new practices for next year, approved of certain phases of the 1937 program, pro-gram, modified certain provisions, and eliminated others that did not conform to the desires of the representatives re-presentatives present. Following are the new practices that will be suggested to the of-ficals of-ficals at Washington, D. C. to be included in the 1938 program for Utah: 1. We feel that we are justified justifi-ed in initiating a progarm of old tree removal and compensating orchardists for this practice. 2. We recommend that the irrigation program be approved on a state-wide basis. 3. We recommend a payment (Continued on page eight) Better 1938 Program (Continued from page one) for the application of barnyard manure and for the application of nitrogen to orchards. 4. We recommend that consideration con-sideration be given to the irrigation irriga-tion of orchards on proper contour. 5. We recommend that more consideration be given to the consideration con-sideration of non-diversion farms the re-allotment of privileges that they might earn their maximum payments. 6. Because the popular sentiment senti-ment seems to indicate that we go back to the 30 percent and 7C percent division, we recommend further consideration be given this matter before a determination is made. 7. We recommend that in the case of sugar beets, a modifiva-tion modifiva-tion and liberalizing of the rulings be made to permit tenants and share croppers to receive payments pay-ments due to operating no soil-conserving soil-conserving acres. |
