Show Hurricane Mrs. Katharine Larson Reporter A wedding reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. Du Rell Covington was given Monday night at the high school auditorium by the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Leany. The evening was spent in social dancing, under the direction of LaVar Hinton. The young couple were married Thursday night, May 4, at the St. George Temple by Pres. Harold S. Snow. The bride, the former Miss Mar-zelle Mar-zelle Leany, is a senior at the local school and will graduate with her class this spring. The groom, who completed his high school course last year, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Covington. Coving-ton. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Graff and family spent part of Saturday and Sunday visiting with relatives rela-tives at Bunkerville. They also motored to Lake Mead. Mrs. Nelson A. Snow and small son, McKay, left Thursday for Provo, where they will be the guests of Mrs. Snow's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Sanders and son, Ronald, of Salt Lake City, are visiting here with Mrs. Sanders' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ballard. Mrs. LaVerna Graff entertained her card club Thursday night at the Hurricane Cafe where tables were laid for 20 guests. After dinner Five Hundred was played. Prizes were awarded at each table for high score. Those winning prizes were Mrs. Maude Naegle, Mrs. Lena Gates, Mrs. Marie Stanworth and Mrs. Katharine Larson, Special guests at the party were Mrs. Maude Reid, Mrs. Marina Geisselnr of LaVerkin, Mrs. Josephine Sandberg and Mrs. Mary Kleinman. Mrs. Isabelle Hinton gave the lesson, "Early Mining In Utah" to the Hurricane camp of the D.U.P. Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Leo K. Homer, where she was assisted as hostess by Mrs. Karl Larson. Mrs. Joseph Cox read the history she had prepared pre-pared of her grandfather, Thomas J. Thurston. Lunch was served to 25 members and guests. After the lesson many of the older women enjoyed recalling incidents experienced at the old Silver Reef mine. Special guests at the meeting were the Misses Elizabeth Eliza-beth Lee, Alice and Ellen Spend-love, Spend-love, Lavina Berry and Rachel Russell. Because of the fact that Zion Park stake quarterly conference will convene on Sunday, May 14, appropriate Mother's Day exercises exer-cises were held in both Sunday schools at Hurricane. Each mother was presented with one rose, each grandmother with two roses and each great-grandmother with three roses. Fenton Whitney, superintendent in the Hurricane south ward Sunday school and Maurice Hinton, superintendent of the North ward Sunday school, were in charge of the meetings. Dr. and Mrs. Wilford C. Cox of St. George attended the wedding wed-ding dance Monday night given for Mr. and Mrs. DuRell Covington. Coving-ton. Miss Ramona Wood of Salt Lake City is home for a short visit with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Spendlove and to help them care for her brother, Dell Wood, who is ill. The life and poems of Edwin Markham were used by Mrs. O. F. Burgener Friday afternoon when she conducted the study hour at the Alice Louise Reynolds club. Mrs. Alvin Englestead and Mrs. Grant Wright were hostesses to the club members at the Englestead Engle-stead home. Refreshments were served to 18 women. Warren Church senior at the high school, received the Union Pacific scholarship given each year to one boy in Washington county. Warren, who is president of the FFFA chapter, intends, because of this scholarship, to attend the U.S.A.C. next winter. Owen Burgener, together with his 50-piece band, attended the music festival at Beaver Saturday. Satur-day. Mrs. Burgener accompanied thm. |
