Show STATES ARE TAKING OVER HIGHWAY SYSTEM The mtovement to take highway and road construction out of the hands of counties and place it under un-der state control and supervision seems to be gaining momentum on the theory that a more comprehensive compre-hensive and complete system of main highways and feeder or farm service roads can be obtained by this method. This also would do away with much experimenting in methods cf construction and materials used, for it would obviate the numerous county boards and commissions, each endeavoring to find out in its own way what materials are best. Practical highway engineers have found that a coating of road oil or asphaltic mixture properly applied ap-plied at a comparatively low cost, is often all that is necessary to give sparsely settled rural districts adequate weatherproof secondary roads leading to main highways. |
