Show SOUTHERN UTAHS DROUTH BROKEN St. George received its first touch of winter Tuesday morning. Snow commenced falling at daylight day-light and continued intermittently throughout the day. The precipi-throughout precipi-throughout the day. The snowfall here amounted to one inch. The storm Tuesday broke a drouth extending over a period of four months and which was one of the most serious ever experienced experi-enced here. The snowfall was general gen-eral and evenly distributed all through the county. According to R. C. Hyde, there were four inches of snow at John Sturzenegger's ranch on the strip Tuesday morning and storm continued con-tinued throughout the day reliev ing the parched condition of the range which had assumed serious proportions. There was a two inch fall at Zion park Tuesday and seven inches in-ches at the North Rim, with a blizzard still raging. Roads to Bryce and Cedar Breaks, which have been open all season, were closed by snow. Modena reports four inches of snow and after clearing the temperature tem-perature dropped to 17 below on Wednesday. Two inches of snow fell at Enterprise and a heavy fall is reported by motorists from Cedar City to Salt Lake. Following the storm Tuesday the terriperature dropped rapidly in St. George, the mercury registering 16 above Wednesday morning and 12 above this morning. Nine degrees de-grees above zero was the coldest registered at any time last winter. |
