Show COORDINATED EFFORT NEED-ED NEED-ED TO PUT OVER HIGHWAY. The officers of the Arrowhead Trails association are arranging to send a representative on a tour of Arizona to meet with the various vari-ous commercial bodies and expound ex-pound the views of southern Utah relative to an immediate commencement com-mencement of work on the St. George-Kingman highway. They are well aware that Arizona, like Utah is seriously handicapped in highway development because of the small population and great distances of unsettled country through which roads must be constructed. con-structed. It is intended that ways and means be discussed designed to bring about the opening of a travelable road and the establisn-ment establisn-ment of a ferey near the mouth of the Grand Wash this spring. The Kingman commercial organizations or-ganizations have signified their willingness to cooperate to the fullest extent and many letters have been received from Phoenix citizens requesting that the representatives rep-resentatives of the Arrowhead Trails Association meet with then-clubs then-clubs to the end that this highway high-way project may be considered in its entirety. Unremitting effort for the past ten years on the part of a few has resulted in keeping the KUng-man-St. George project alive. It has also had an effect on the improvement im-provement of the road from Kingman down the Big Sandy river riv-er for a distance of almost ninety miles. This road will constitute a past -of th short line between Kingman and Phoenix. The importance of active coordinated-effort to put this highway high-way over. is emphasized by the re- cent action, of the Western States Highway Officials convention at San Antonio, Texas, when a resolution reso-lution was passed demanding that the federal government assist in completing a road that will extend from Alaska to Nogales, on the Mexican . border. ' Many of the citizens of Washington Wash-ington and Iron comities are alive to the situation, but, unfortunately, unfortu-nately, there is too great a number num-ber who believe in letting George do it. We are all cognizant of the fact that were it not for the traffic traf-fic utilizing the Arrowhead trail this section would be in a serious financial condition. The greatest single asset of southwestern Utah is its scenic attractions. Highways have made them accessible to the outside world. Every year the returns from motoring vacationists show a large increase over the preceding sea-vson. sea-vson. No one will dispute that the entire community is vastly benefitted bene-fitted by the funds expended for highway construction which, in turn, results in a steady stream of outside money flowing into the towns along the way. Despite these" proven results, it is extremely difficult to awaken many of the citizens of this section sec-tion to the value of a road con necting Pnoemx Dy a wiuii- -year route to Salt Lake City. Or, if they are convinced of its value, val-ue, too many fail to realize that it takes money to carry on a campaign for highway betterment They apparently believe that all things come to those who wait. A far better thought to carry is that he who truly cooperates wins for himself profit in ratio with community progress. |
