Show BOYS HELD FOR THEFT OF CAR Three California youths, Douglas Reed, 17; Hugh Cottrell, 16, and Harold Smith, 18, were apprehended apprehend-ed here at 3 o'clock Friday morning while in the act of stealing steal-ing gasoline from cars parked in front of the Arrowhead hotel. They had drained the tanks of four machines, filled the tank of their own car and also an extra five-gallon five-gallon can for emergency, when they were caught. After their arrest ar-rest they confessed stealing the machine in ' which they came to St. George. . According to the story told by the boys, the machine was stolen from Lawrence Carr of Lemon Grove, near San Diego, on New Year's eve, and the three started north. Having no money gasoline for their car was stolen all along the route. Federal authorities at Salt Lake were notified of their capture and the boys are held here awaiting the arrival of government men who will probably take them to Salt Lake to face Dyer automobile theft act charges. E. S. Kimball, chief investigator of the bureau of car theft, of Salt Lake, came down Sunday and took their statement. He returned to Salt Lake Tuesday and if it is determined that the boys are fit subjects for federal prosecution, a United States mar-shall mar-shall will come to St. George and take them to Salt Lake. u i L . |
