Show FISH ARRIVE FOR COUNTY STREAMS Close to 40,000 Trout, Two to Five Inches in Length, Plant- in Washington County wo truck tanks of trout, each con- ining from 16.000 to 20,000 trout, v-Prasing in length from two to five hes ere received in Washington county by the Dixie Rod and Gun club last Friday. 0ne tank was taken directly to En-rise En-rise and the trout were turned ,. wnt-rnrise reservoir. The Inose I" ZL tank was taken to Hunt's Lch where some of the fish were Iterated in Santa Clara creek, some re loosed above the ranch and the remainder about 14 quarts were planted plant-ed in the Grass Valley reservoir. The lish came through in fine shape not a dead one being found in either tank. More fish are available at the state hatcheries and it is the intention of the local club to restock the streams and reservoirs of the county as fast as poible. Washington county has its store of trout streams, and with judicious judi-cious stocking each year this could be one of the greatest fishing centers m the west. The local rod and gun club has pledged itself to this task, and asks the support of all in its endeavors. The result of the club's efforts are already al-ready to be seen in the arrival of trout here but the organization is handicapped to a certain extent by a lack of funds. The club is now actively active-ly soliciting. members as consideration is given by the state fish and game commission in direct proportion to the membership represented by local rod and gun clubs in the various coun ties. The state has several million fish available and it is up to the sportsmen , of Washington county to do all in 'lt their power to secure their share for if restocking purposes. With new hatcheries at Panguitch, Beaver and Glenwood working at full capacity the state department expects to real- enough fish within the next year to make the scenic southland of the state one of the greatest fishing centers in the state and the entire west. Along with the scenic beauties beau-ties now so widely known, it is hoped to add the fishing attraction which no doubt will attract thousands of tourists annually as well as satisfy the residents of southern Utah. Puffer's lake, Fish lake, Panguitch lake, Navajo lake and about a score of smaller lakes in the Thousand lake district east of Wayne county on the Paul plateau will be well stocked with fish this year from all the hatcheries in southern Utah and the ones at Murray and Springville. The Glenwood hatchery now contains con-tains about two million young fish, the Panguitch contains about the same amount and the Beaver hatchery is now inhabited by about one million fingerlings. Many of the eastern brook trout hatched at Glenwood from eggs produced at Pish lake are now 10 months old and ready to plant. They are between eight and ten inches long. About two months ago, 60,000 of these fish were planted in the Sevier river district. They will be ready to take this summer. Some 100,000 eastern brook trout will be planted in Fish lake this season. These fish will be taken from the southern Utah hatcheries to do away with the high costs of transporting the fish from northern to southern Utah by truck. The eastern brook tout will be held until fall. Approximately 100,000 rainbow trout nw housed at the Panguitch hatchery wi'l be liberated in the deep water akes this summer. The largest of the lct frill be set free from time to time. cr.e-ha!f million salmon and an equal number of eastern brook trout are also kins taken care of at the Panguitch Ponds. Panguitch, Navajo and adjacent ad-jacent lakes will receive most of these f'nny beauties. . Young rainbow and east3rn brook are housed at the Beaver hatchery at u'e present time.
