Show f jovermor mwd 1 Be At Hiimcame, Friday n . J Y Official Party to Spend Full Day At Fruit Festival In Hurricane Tomorrow, Friday, August 23, is Governor's Day at the Dixie Peach Festival. The Hon Governor Gov-ernor Blood and his official party arrive in Cedar tonight and leave there tomorrow morning in time to be at the " Y" at Anderson's ranch at 9:00 a.m., where they are to be met by members of the Dixie College band under the direction of Earl J. Bi'jak and citizens of Dixie, who will turn out to honor the o.ficiil party and escort them to Hurricane. Today will sea the Festival opening with tin fruit and various var-ious displays, rodeo, baseball game, fights in the evening and a dance to finish off the day. A championship baseball game is on tap with Hinckly, champion of the Central Utah League and St. George fighting it out for supremacy of South Western Utah League. These two teams will play each day and should display a brand of ball long to be remembered by the people of Dixie. A fast fight card has been lined lin-ed up for both nights with- six fights for tonight and five tomorrow to-morrow night. The feature bout for tonight sees Sam Pugh, of Kanab and Paul Stygler, of Las Vegas battling it out in an 8 round session. Tomorrow night will feature Arlington SpiLsbury, of Cedar and Johnnie Smith, of Las Vegas, in a ten round affair. Governor's Day Friday is being featured as "Governor's Day." Starting with the big parade from the "Y" there will be something doing every minute for the entertainment entertain-ment of the official party. Visits will also be made to some of the outstanding farms of that district to show just what can be done in this Dixie country. At noon liiere will be a big barbecue with District Attorney Ellis Pickett as toastmaster for the oceassion. In the afternoon the Governor's party will be shown the display of fruits, vegetables vege-tables and other prize products. Entertainment is provided in the way of a rodeo and baseball game, providing the official group are interested. A tour of the Virgin River Valley will be made and the possibilities of the Virgin Vir-gin River development will , be shown. In the evening there will be the Fruit Festival, with short talks by Governor Blood and other oth-er state officials. Following this they will either go to Zion National Na-tional Park or come to St. George for the night. The return trip to Salt Lake City will be made on Saturday. The reception committee consisting con-sisting of Judge LeRoy Cox, Chairman; Claude Hirschi and L. B. Bennett, are very anxious that as large a delegation as possible pos-sible turn out to greet the official offi-cial party and join the parade to (Hurricane. In their opinion there is nothing like a good "old fashioned fash-ioned parade" coupled with the modern "whoopee" to create a spirit of fellowship and good will. |
