Show MRS. JOHN DENNETT PAID TRIBUTE FOR UNTIRING SERVICE SPRINGDALE. Oct. 23. An interesting inter-esting social event took place on Thursday evening, October 18, when more than two hundred people gathered gath-ered to honor Mrs. John Dennett of Rockville. The party which was sponsored spon-sored by old friends of Mrs. Dennett, was in the form of a testimonial and tribute to her for her long and untiring service as a nurse among the people of Springdale and adjoining ad-joining towns. A program was given consisting of musical numbers, monologues and songs. An original poem by Mrs. Moses Gifford in honor of Mrs. Den-net Den-net was read. Speeches were made by Oliver Gifford, John Crawford, Mrs. Florence Fairbanks and others. Boyd Dennett, youngest son of Mrs. Dennett, responded in behalf of his mother. Supper was served and the remainder remain-der of the evening was spent in dancing. Mrs. Dennett is 74 years of age and for forty years has practiced nursing in this part of the country. Before roads were built and when medical aid had to be procured from Cedar City or St. George, Mrs. Dennett Den-nett was the chief reliance of the people here, in cases of sickness. At any time of the day or night, no matter what the weather, Mrs. Dennett Den-nett was never known to refuse a call to the bedside of anyone in need. The host of friends present at the gathering Thursday evening included many from other parts of the country coun-try and surrounding towns. |
