Montcalm, none the worse for the experience ex-perience of having their boat collide with an ice berg in mid-Atlantic, and being held there in ice fields for 48 hours. Word of their safe arrival was received receiv-ed Monday at the Church offices. According to Associated Press dispatches dis-patches from Glasgow, Scotland, the Montcalm, a Canadian Pacific Steamship Steam-ship company liner, on July 3, two days out from Montreal, after passing several sev-eral small ice bergs in the Straight of Belle Isle, suddenly slid into a submerged sub-merged ledge of a giant ice berg, and canted steeply. Due to the dense fog the steamer had been progressing slowly, with a keen lookout, but the tall iceberg rose suddenly sud-denly out of the mist into full view before be-fore the signal could be given to reverse the engines, and the boat slid onto the ledge. The accident occurred at 2:30 in the afternoon, and many of the pasengers were on deck. Those below came running run-ning on deck when they felt the shock of the collision, and all, including the Utah passengers, were ordered to put on life belts. Life boats were swung out ready o be lowered, but the big ship righted it- , self, with only the loss of a propeller, and some paint which had been scrap- . ed off in the impact. The fog continued continu-ed for two days, and the Montcalm, and many other ships, laid over with sirens sounding. When the fog lifted the Montcalm proceeded under its own power, though at reduced speed. Reports are to the effect that no one was injured.
