Show DIXIE BOY HERO IN SUB RESCUE WORK Fred George Michels, diver, formerly for-merly of St. George, was injured while attempting to rescue the survivors of the sunken submarine S-4 off the coast of Massachusetts, an Associated Press dispatch says. He is one of four brothers who served through the world war in the United States navy it became known Tuesday. The young man has a record for bravery in connection with submarine rescues. He was commended in person per-son by Secretary of the Navy Wilbur Wil-bur for services rendered in salvage operations for the S-51 after it was sunk off Block Island in 1925, according accord-ing to the dispatch. The Michels family formerly lived in St. George, the father owning a drug store here about 30 years ago. The family moved from here to Logan and then removed to Salt Lake where they now reside. |
