Show OIL MEETING " WELLATTENOED The oil meeting called by the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce to discuss the situation situa-tion in this field last Friday night was well attended. Representatives from all companies operating here were present. pre-sent. Much enthusiasm was manifested manifest-ed and it was the opinion of all that this field should be fully explored at depth, and that drilling should be resumed re-sumed on the Virgin Dome, the pioneer pion-eer well of the district. Jos. T. Atkin, Jr., president of the St. George Chamber of Commerce, made the opening talk. He stated that the meeting was called by the Chamber of Commerce because of the fact that the chamber was back of the oil movement and would do all in its power to further interest in the local field. Chas. D. Alsop manager of the Arrowhead Ar-rowhead Petroleum Corporation, and who is now superintending the drilling on the Mid-American lease on the Bloomington Dome, made a very impressive im-pressive talk. He said the time was at hand when all eyes of the oil world were on this section, and that interest in oil is on the increase. It is up to the people here to make the most of their opportunity. Reported progress on the Mid-American well which is now down to over 900 feet. Mr. Jackson, a geologist of Indiana, was present at the meeting and made a short talk. His talk was short but to the point. He urged the resuming of drilling on the Virgin Dome. O. L. Hintt. who is now ririllintr n. test well on the Beehive Dome, T. J. Futrell, of the Uzona Oil Company, Mr. Mitchell, a driller from Colorado, and William Higgins of the Virgin Dome, made short talks. Tire latter said that he found interest throughout' Utah centered on the southern part of the state. While many do not know it, he said eminent geologists are here every day investigating conditions ana making reports as evidences of oil are revealed. He said it was his opinion that southern Utah is on the verge of an oil boom. It was unanimously agreed at the meeting that the great pioneering work has been done by the Virgin Dome, which has penetrated some of the pay sands bearing both oil and gas, proving beyond question that there is oil here. Over one hundred were present at the meeting and much interest was shown. Questions were asked by er-sons er-sons present and answered by the different dif-ferent speakers. It is planned to hold meetings regularly regul-arly in the future. |
