Show WASHINGTON Funeral services were held in he ward meeting house Wednesday at 2 o'clock p. m. over the remains of j0hn C. Smith who departed this life 0 January 16, 1928. Elder John Tanner of the bishop, ric conducted the services. Singing, America. Opening prayer, A. H. Larson. The speakers were Elders dolph Andrus of Washington and H L. Reed of St. George. Brother Reed reviewed the battle of Gettysburg. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the Civil war having served three years with the Union forces and participated participat-ed in the battle of Gettysburg. jje was wounded thirteen times, one of them leaving him a cripple and he carried to. his grave lead from two shots. The congregation sang "i eed Thee Every Hour," and "Nearer My God to Thee." Closing prayer was bv Walter Iverson. The grave was dedicated by Elder Wm. Tobler and taps were sounded by Prof. Earl J. Bleak of St. George. Copeland John C. Smith was born October 19, 1845 in Glasgow, Scotland He is survived by a -son, Roy Smith of Tacoma, Washington, two grand children and one great grand child, and a daughter, Mrs. John Jolley of this place with whom he made his home before his death. Gaston Bastron of Salt Lake was visiting relatives here last week. Elders Frei and Mathis of Santa Clara and St. George have been visiting vis-iting our ward the past week as missionaries. mis-sionaries. Mrs. Ruth Whitter left last week for her home at Minersville. |
