Show CHARGES AGAINST RISHEL PROVED BEYOND DOUBT Elsewhere in this issue appears an article from the Provo Herald of the 3rd inst. which appears to prove conclusively con-clusively the charge that has been repeatedly made and never successfully success-fully contradicted, that W. D. Rishel of the Utah State Auto Assn. had been directing travel north and west instead of through that part of Utah lying south of Salt Lake where the major scenic attractions of the state are located. The cat is now out of the bag and we all know why this has been done because the Auto Club of Southern California would not affiliate with the American Automobile Assn. of which the Salt Lake club is a branch. This was admitted by Ernest N. Smith, general manager of the American Amer-ican Automobile association at the western conference of auto clubs held recently at the Hotel Utah. The words used by him, according to the Salt Lake Tribune were, "the Auto Club of Southern California is on the black list of the A. A. A." This may be alright for the A. A. A. outside of Utah, but we consider it traitorous for any Utahn or body of Utahns to intentionally divert travel and money away from this state and the grandest scenery on the continent contin-ent because Southern California might get some of it if it came this way. It is well that we know who our friends are, and it is also well that we know those who work against us. This paper has always advocated keeping money within the state, getting get-ting what we could from Salt Lake, but if Salt Lake backs up this move of the A. A. A. and its Salt Lake Branch to boycott Southern Utah and its sublime scenery because of a grievence against a club in a neighboring neigh-boring state, then it would be but a rational and logical resuit that southern Utah should join hands with those of Southern California who work with her. |
