Show No Getting Away From Defilement of Pitch When a man with a hitherto good character gets mixed up with some scandal, or allows his name to be associated as-sociated with a shady transaction, It Is often said, "l'ou can't touch pitch without being defiled." Pitch Is one of those singularly adhesive things which, touch It ever so lightly, leaves, if not a stalu, at least an odor. The correct quotation is, "He that toucheth pitch shall be deliled therewith," there-with," and many people would be inclined in-clined to look for it in the book of Troverbs. It is not in the authorized version of the Scriptures, but forms the verse of Chapter XIII of the book of Ecclesiasticus, one of the books of the Apocrypha those sacred writings which are not Included in the canon of Scripture. |
