Show 150 DOES KILLED IN BEAVER SECTION It is estimated by the Beaver game warden and the forest ranger than no less that 150 dead does are lying in the Beaver mountains, victims not only of the careless hunter, but of those who disregarded the buck law and shot every deer they saw. Not only were many of the hunters unsportsmanlike in their quest for game, but they were also negligent in caring for their campfires, according to the Beaver Press. Five forest fires were reported by the ranger, but they were extinguished before any great amount of damage was done. Contrast the above with the record turned in by hunters on the Dixie preserve, pre-serve, which was opened this year and regulated by the game conservation bodies of Washington and Iron counties coun-ties under the system of control stations sta-tions at strategic points. The game wardens patrolling the preserve report only a few does killed and in each case the hunter himself reported the violation which was investigated and action taken in accordance with the findings of the wardens. In no case was it found that the hunter wilfully violated the law, but killed the doe by mistake. There has been but one flagTant violation of the law brought to the attention of the game warden, that of a hunter with no license checking check-ing in a buck, and this will be prosecuted prose-cuted by the department. |
