Show FORD TO MAKE j MILLION AND HALF j CARS EACH YEAR Declaring he was willing to risk all he has in an effort to 1 start an industrial revival, Hen- ry Ford has announced that he ; had provided himself with stocks of materials anticipating a possible production program of one and a half million cars a year. He estimated his program will call for the expenditure of $300,000,000 in Detroit and Michigan alone for raw and fabricated fab-ricated materials, freight and shipping costs and labor, purchases pur-chases of raw materials and manufactured parts throughout the United States, he said, would aggregate $52,000,000 per month. Production of the new eight and the improved four cylinder models recently announced, started start-ed the first of March, and according ac-cording to Ford, "before long we expect to be making from 5000 to 6000 cars a day. In the Detroit area alone, he said, 100,000 men will be employed at the standard minimum wage of $6 a day and upward. In addition, ad-dition, he added, 5500 suppliers of parts and materials throughout through-out the United States will give employment to 300,000 more men. Although admitting that operation op-eration of the Ford indutsries alone cannot end the industrial and economic depression, Ford believes that if his company operates op-erates at capacity, or nearly so, thousands of other industries will resume production and that the depression will gradually disappear. "We have nothing the public did not give us," he said. "No surplus exists for private benefit; bene-fit; every surplus is provided for future use. The future is here, now, and we are going to do our utmost to risk everything if necessary to see if we cannot help.". |
