BP met Thursday evening at the Sage Cafe to honor Vella B B. B Smith Club Woman of the Year Mrs Smith has been an active member of for over 20 years holding the offices of vice president treasurer and historian The Nikki statue was presented to Mrs Smith by Betty Zeller club president VELLA B B. B SMITH was born barn August 26 1891 in Jensen to Alfred N N. N and Alice O. O Billings She was the second of eight eight- children five who are still living Her brothers and sisters are Eldon P P. Billings G G. G Cecil Billings Erma Slade and Ona Billings Taylor She graduated from Uintah Academy in 1911 and attended the BYU Academy to obtain a teaching certificate She graduated in 1912 and returned to Jensen to teach school for four years SHE MARRIED l Driver E. E Smith December 22 1915 Their first child Edwin was born in iq October 1916 Five more children were born during the next twenty years Four that are still living are Orser of Cal California ornia Shirley Maurice of Salt Lake and Miriam Lenz of Butte Montana Her husband Driver died June 19 1972 Since that time she has carried on the business business business bus bus- iness of the Ute Trading Post herself TIER HER DAUGHTER Miriam gave a a few highlights from her mothers life Maurice Smith from Salt Lake gave his personal tribute to his mother at the dinner Orser Smith from California participated by letter Three of Mrs Smiths Smith's nieces LaRae Caldwell Beth Sweat Sweat- field and Alice Wiggins sang her favorite songs including Silver ilver Threads Among the Gold and When you Were Sweet Sixteen TWO BROTHERS Eldon P P. and G G. G Cecil Billings paid tribute to their sister by recalling some personal experiences of their lives as they were children grow growing up upon upon upon on the farm Two potted plants were presented to Mrs Smith from family members Also in attendance was the Vernal Woman of the Year honoree Barbara Coney The tables for the dinner were decor decorated ted with lighted candies candles baskets of spring flowers and specially printed napkins with Mrs Smiths Smith's name and title The evening was under the committee of Myrtle Nealson Polly Adams and Maxine Corah |
