Obviously, he didn't like it, but afterward there was nothing he could do about it, so he decided he must live with it, and as long as he was going to live, he might as well give it everything he had. Brinkman told the students of Uintah High about Jimmy Black, who decided he wanted to be an Olympic swimmer. There was only one problem. Jimmy always finished last. But he kept trying, and finally he didn't finish last, he finished finish-ed somewhere in the middle. For Jimmy, this was not good enough. He continued to train and continued to compete. He finally won, and with that victory he knew he would make it to the Olympics. In preparation for the Olympics, Jimmy Jim-my trained to swim in a 10 mile marathon swimming race, which is equivalent to a 40 mile run. He prepared himself to lead in the race and held on through nine miles. At that point he was totally exhausted, but he decided that since he was in the water, and must continue, con-tinue, he might as well give it everything he had. As the swimmers neared the finish line another swimmer was neck and neck with Jimmy, and as they reached for the finish line, the other swimmer touched first Jimmy had lost. Brinkman said he thought Jimmy would have indeed won, if he had two arms, instead in-stead of only one. Curt Brinkman loves the United States of America.
