Show Annual search and rescue rummage sale May 7 The annual Uintah County Search and Rescue Rummage Sale will be Saturday, May 7, at 450 East 200 South, between the National Guard Armory and the Uintah County Shops. This is the only fund raising event of the year for the Search and Rescue. The unit has no government funding. Proceeds from the rummage sale will be used to provide modern equipment needed for successful search and rescue. Possible equipment might include in-clude scuba diving gear, mountain climbing and repelling gear, first aid equipment, and communications equipment. All search and rescue members volunteer their time, resources, and finances to assist the Sheriff's office and the community. The unit is available when someone becomes lost, stranded when life may be threatened, to rescue or recover drowning victims, to assist with local emergencies, and to assist the Uintah County Sheriff when called upon. This could involve various duties in law enforcement. Uintah County Sheriff Arden Stewart said the patrol is a dedicated group of men who give freely of their own time and money to this worthwhile wor-thwhile organization. All of the members use their own 4-wheel drive vehicles and radio equipment. They pay all of their own expenses. Sheriff Stewart said the patrol is ready in nearly any kind of emergency. emergen-cy. Among the 35 members are pilots, certified divers, emergency medical technicians, and they are currently receiving mountain climbing training. The Search and Rescue patrol is called upon many times every year to assist in life saving situations. Sheriff Stewart said the men are always ready and willing to help with any situation. The patrol has been in existence for 22 years. They all work hard to provide this service to the community, and they are proud to belong to a very worthwhile wor-thwhile service oriented organization. The members of the community who have had occasions to use this service are very much aware of its value. Those who have not, very well may need the patrol sometime in the future. The service is provided to the public at no cost, nor any cost to taxpayers. The members of the patrol appreciate ap-preciate the support of the community, communi-ty, and ask that the support will continue. There is still time to donate to the rummage sale.
