The reason or the purchase was to improve the stu dent's academics, said Mr. Gotfredson. "It is one way of getting fast response. You can take a test and get your percentage percen-tage right away." ' The students in Mr. McMullin's homeroom are each taught how to run and operate the computer. They put the disk in and type their name. There is also a password they have to type in which allows them into the computer for their own work. In the computer is stored each student's individual work. Mr. McMullin programs each student's work into the computer. The students in his homeroom are each allowed 15 minutes each day to work on the computer to do their work. Some of his other students come in on Tuesdays and Thursdays at various times in which they are able to spend time working on the computer. "By the end of the year I will be able to tell if it improved their ability over those students who didn't get to use it." explained Mr. McMullin. Mr. Gotfredson said, "I think it really helped those students last year." The computer can be used for such subjects sub-jects as math, reading, spelling, social studies, and many other things. Each of Mr. McMullin's homeroom students are given 15 minutes daily to work on the computer. of points, they have 30 minutes they get to play games on the computer, said Mr. McMullin. Mr. McMullin said the students come in on their free time willingly to use the computer, also. When asked if they feel the computer has been an effective tool, Mr. McMullin responded, "I definitely think it has. We get a lot of mileage out of it. It is a definite incentive to want to work. "It gives immediate feedback," commented com-mented Mr. Gotfredson. Mr. McMullin also stated, "I can use it for my record keeping." In talking to some of the students, Myra Burker said, "It's fun. We get to work on it every day for 15 minutes." Kimberly Downard said, "It's fun and you learn things on it like the states." Shantaa Mitchell's response was, "I The computer lets you know how you do. like it. I like doing division and the states." "I think it's fun. It helps me learn my states better and learn my division," said Jennifer Daniels. Mr. McMullin said they are hoping they will be able to teach some of the students the language of programming the computer by the end of the year. "I wish we had five more of them," was Mr. McMullin's response to how he likes the computer. |
