Show City gets grant seeks another for firetruck With no input voiced at a public hearing hear-ing for a Community Development Block Grant, the Vernal City Council decided to apply for $50,000 for a new city firetruck. The $50,000 block grant would pay the balance of the city's portion of the fire truck after receiving $50,000 from the Community Impact Board in a grant for the firetruck Thursday. The Community Communi-ty Impact Board awarded the city the $50,000 grant for the firetruck. Government entities in the Uintah Basin are eligible to compete for $280,000 made available by the federal government govern-ment and distributed to the Uintah Basin. Last year the block grant money was distributed by population, Vernal City receiving $90,000 earmarked for placing sewerline on 500 West from 200 North to 600 North. Installation of the sewerline will begin next spring. Part of the process for selecting a project pro-ject for the grant application is a public hearing. Since there wasn't any public comment, the city staff recommended the city apply for the balance of the firetruck. The council approved the recommendation. |
