The Utes scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning for a 7-6 lead over the Union Cougars. Darin Nelson and Gary Swim were retired by Union's hurler, Bryan Eldredge on strike outs, but Mike Robbins tripled with two outs and scored on a single by Rick Capps. Dale Wood ripped out a double and a two-bagger by Glen Murray drove in Capps and Wood and presented a 7 to 6 lead to the Uintah Utes. Larry Crowl struck out for the third out. Union scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take an 8-7 advantage. Freestone struck out for the Cougars and Jim Trowbridge's pop fly dropped between bet-ween the pitcher and catcher for a single. Lonnie Sammaripa connected for a single and Brett Cramer reached first base on a short hopper in centerfield to load up the bases. A sacrifice fly by Kenny Ken-ny Anderton knocked in Trowbridge with the game tying run at 7-7. Chad Richard singled in Sammaripa with the game winning run at 8-7 and Bardett Fausett was forced out at second base for the third out. Uintah had one more chance at netting a victory in the top of the seventh inning, but the Utes were unable to get a basehit at the right time. Randy Nelson singled and stole second base. Kurt Robb flied out and Darin Nelson's ground out advanced ad-vanced Randy Nelson to third base. Swim grounded out on the first pitch delivered by Eldredge and Union won the game by the score of 8 to 7. The Utes were blanked in the top of the first inning as Crowl grounded out and Randy Nelson and Robb flied out. However, Union wasn't blanked in its half of the first inning as they scored two runs for a 2-0 lead. Anderton and Gingell were retired on ground balls, but Rick Nielsen blasted the Ute pitcher with a double. Shane Neilsen was walked and Eldredge used his bat instead of his pitching pit-ching arm as he struck for baseball gold with a double, which scored Nielsen and Neilsen with a 6-4 lead. Ross struck out for the final out. Both teams were blanked in the fourth and fifth innings. Uintah's fourth inning wasn't the usual type of shutout inning as three runners got on the base paths for the Utes. Swim grounded out, but Robbins Rob-bins was walked. Capps flied out to the first baseman and Richens was walked. Rasmussen reached first base when the third strike was dropped by the Union catcher to load up the bases. Union got out of the bases loaded jam when Richens was picked off third for the final out on a close play. Union went down one, two, three in the bottom of the fourth inning as Trowbridge grounded out, Sammaripa struck out and Cramer grounded out. Uintah went down in order in the fifth as Crowl, Randy Nelson and Robb committed commit-ted outs. Anderton and Gingell were retired in the bottom of the fifth, but Union's Rick Nielsen reached first on an error. Shane Neilsen singled, but Eldredge flied out for the third out. Sammaripa singled up the middle and Cramer lined a shot to center. A long flv ball scored one run and Richard singled to left over the shortstop on a one hopper to drive in the winning run. Fieldsted added, "The lead went back and forth. We (Union) hit the ball good and so did Uintah. It was a good game." The one run win by the Union Cougars gave them revenge for a 3-2 loss to Uintah Uin-tah in Vernal on March 22.
