Show Governor's aide to address Chamber meet , " r J ( Dale B. Carpenter The Director of the Utah Department of Community and Economic Development Develop-ment will be the keynote speaker at the 34th annual meeting of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce. Dale B. Carpenter will represent Governor Scott M. Matheson at the Chamber meeting Monday, May 2 at the Sheraton Inn. Gov. Matheson was scheduled to be the speaker but his recent re-cent mild heart attack precluded his coming. Carpenter is a native Utahn, born and reared in Summit County. He attended Utah State University, the University of Utah and Southern Illinois University, and holds Bachelor and Masters Degrees. Carpenter has a broad background both in the public and private sectors. He has taught at Louisiana State University, Universi-ty, Southern Illinois University and the University of Utah. He served as Director Direc-tor of Utah State Division of Economic and Industrial development from 1975 to 1978. From 1978 to 1980 he was President of Intermountain Industrial Properties. On Dec. 15, 1980 Carpenter joined Governor Scott Matheson's administration administra-tion where he currently serves as Executive Ex-ecutive Director of the Department of Community and Economic Development. Develop-ment. In this capacity he supervises the activities of 12 state agencies, all of which fall under the broad mission of the Department to cultivate the community, economic and cultural development 9 within the state. The divisions under Carpenters supervision super-vision include such diverse agencies as the Utah Arts Council, the State Fair, Economic and Industrial Development, and the Travel Council. He is Chairman of the Utah Housing Finance Agency. Carpenter is a resident of Salt Lake City, Ci-ty, He is married to the former Carolyn Budd and they have four children. The business portion of the meeting will include the election of five directors to the board. Those finishing their terms are Lloyd Winward, L.Y. Siddoway, Dar-rell Dar-rell Wardle, Brent Feltch and John Schwisow. Nominations made by the Nomination Committee to run for the three-year office of-fice of director are Ray Kier, Dick Winters, John Schwisow, Corey Grua and Mark Nash. Nominations of other candidates can be made through the Chamber office or at the annual meeting before the election. Special musical numbers on the program pro-gram will be sung by Victor and Denice Angelo. Tickets must be purchased before the meeting. Tickets are available from any Chamber director and committee commit-tee chairman and at the Chamber office. |
