Show Life and other trivialities . . . A radical, suggestion By Steve Christensen Assistant Editor The controversy surrounding the incorporation in-corporation of Naples City has mounted in the past few weeks since Naples City Council decided to form a Redevelopment Agency. Many Uintah County residents thought the move by Naples City to incorporate in-corporate a year ago was a bit of a radical move. It was suggested the incorporation in-corporation took place just to keep Vernal City from annexing part of the area. Residents of Naples felt that would have been a bit of a radical move, so they went ahead and incorporated. incor-porated. Vernal City officials thought that was a bit of a radical move. Then Naples decided to have a fire department and a police force. People thought that was a bit of a radical move. Then Naples decided to form the Redevelopment Agency. The Uintah Uin-tah County Commission thought that was just a bit too radical, so they decided to sue. Well, Naples thought that was really radical. But, with all these radical things happening between Naples and the county, and between Naples and County Coun-ty residents, and even between Naples Nap-les and Naples residents (some of whom are trying to disincorporate), something even more radical happened happen-ed at Naples City Council meeting Wednesday night. Councilman Dennis Judd recommended recom-mended to Naples City Council that they approach the Vernal City and Uintah County governments about jointly applying for a Community Impact Im-pact Grant for road improvement. What is this controversy coming to? This can't happen to the Ashley Valley ! What will people have to complain com-plain about if the local government entities en-tities are not at odds about everything? The ramifications of Judd's suggestion sugges-tion are enormous. If the three entities agree on Judd's proposal (which of course hasn't been done), but if by some radical miracle they did, this could just be the tip of the iceberg. Just think what might happen if they decided decid-ed to work together for a change. All kinds of disasterous consequences could arise. Vernal City and Uintah County are now in the process of planning plan-ning a valleywide drainage master plan. Naples might be included in that project. The law enforcement agencies have always worked together. The Naples Fire Department plans to work with the Uintah County-Vernal City Department. There might actually be better services to all the people of Ashley Valley. How radical! Other consequences might be better planning of development, roads, and services to residents. Before you know it, the whole Naples City controversy may be totally forgotten. What will the Express have to write about? I wonder if Judd realized how radical his suggestion sug-gestion really was? |
