Show Poor roads make room for repairs The poor condition of Vernal City's roads has spurred a beefed up patching pat-ching program and block by block resurfacing. During dry weather, there have been three Vernal City crews on the streets looking for chuck holes. According to Kay Overson, city public works director, the three crews are averaging about $500 per day in asphalt used to patch the streets. The crews are using native asphalt that has been heated which is doing a better job than the native asphalt used us-ed cold as in past years. The second phase of the city's street program will be resurfacing. "We are having a lot better luck with the native hot-mix patch staying in place," Over-son Over-son said. The city has prioritized the roads that need the most repairs and will begin to resurface the roads on a block-by-block basis. "When we resurface the roads, we'll make sure they are good by checking the road base and repairing the water and sewer lines," Overson said. Continued on page 12 V rs - . ' - , f. The Vernal City council has authorized the public works department depart-ment to spend $380,000 to resurface the roads before July 1. To insure that the roads are not damaged after they are resurfaced, a five-year moritorium will be placed on cuts in the road. "Public service companies will be notified of the moritorium as the roads are resurfaced," Overson said. Streets which are high on the city list for repairs are 250 North north of Uintah Uin-tah High School, 800 West Main to 500 North and 600 West Main to 200 South and 100 West Main to 100 North. Repairs on 500 South Street will begin June 1 when the contractor can work on the project. |
