Show Flaming Gorge recreavion area vacilivies reporv All camping facilities at Flaming Gorge are open except Spirit Lake campground, cam-pground, according to Ashley National Forest officials. Visitors are reminded that there is no camping this year at Firehole, Antelope Flat, Little Hole or Skull Creek. However, there are plenty of camping sites available elsewhere. Browne Lake and Deep Creek Campgrounds, Cam-pgrounds, along with Navajo Cliffs, Dowd Mountain, and Palisades Picnic Areas have no water. At all sites south of Utah Highway 44 and west of the National Na-tional Recreation area, users are required re-quired to pack their garbage out to the nearest central "pitch in" bin. Boating campgrounds are open to camping, but docks, restrooms and garbage gar-bage facilities are not provided. Again, the pack-in, pack-out policy is in effect. These campgrounds include Kingfisher Island, Hideout Canyon, Gooseneck and Jarvies Canyon. Reservations are required for groups of more than 10 people to camp. The following campgrounds have been designated as Group Site campgrounds: cam-pgrounds: Green's Lake, Lucerne Valley, Dripping Springs (these also have family units); Arch Dam and Greendale East and Greendale West. Family unit campsites cannot be reserved. These are occupied on a first-come, first-come, first-served basis. Campers may collect firewood from several areas on the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Two are on the road going to Little Hole, near Dripping Drip-ping Springs. Others are near Cedar Springs Campground and Greendale Junction. There is a large area on Dowd Mountain also designated for campground cam-pground firewood use. Maps with these locations can be obtained at the Visitor Center or Forest Service offices in Manila or Dutch John. All roads are open. The road to Little Hole just received a $12,000 Sodium Magnesium treatment, which will in-prove in-prove the surface by absorbing moisture, preventing break-up and reducing dust. The Spirit Lake road was plowed last week. Trails above 8000 feet are still muddy and wet. Snow is still present in that elevation. Wildflowers are in full bloom up to that elevation. , Officials reported the following numbers and types of citations have been issued this season to date: littering litter-ing 2, failure to extinguish campfire 2, camping in a closed area 5, vehicles off road in a restricted area 8, occupying a group site without a reservation 1, nonpayment non-payment of camp fees 2, fishing in closed clos-ed waters 2, threatening a forest officer 1, parking in a restricted area 1, leaving camping equipment unattended for more than 24 hours 1. |
