Show Federal authorities to file weapon charge? Federal agents plan to file a felony charge of possession of a firearm against an Oregon ex-convict who was held on a felony assault charge and released, and who pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in a national park, a Uintah County sheriff's deputy said. Sheriff's Cpl. Larry Crowl said a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and -Firearms agent talked with him Monday, Mon-day, and said an incident would be investigated in-vestigated in which James Clark, 38, allegedly assaulted a fellow camper in Dinosaur National Monument. Deputies. found a .22 caliber handgun at the scene, which was given to them by Clark's wife. Clark was accused of assaulting R. J. Withrew, age and address unknown, but the charge was later dismissed when Withrew disappeared. Deputies received reports before they arrived on the scene that shots were fired during the alleged scuffle. Clark May 31 pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Ray Nash to possession of a firearm in the park, a misdemeanor misde-meanor charge, and was fined $200. Clark was paroled after beginning a prison sentence in Oregon in December, 1979 for negligent homicide, according to the Uintah County sheriff's report. |
