'. The Valley -wide Sewer Project is thriving as warm weather has spurred : construction of the sewer lagoons into their third week and the main trunk line is nearing the halfway mark. Speculating that they would receive the bid from EPA, Van Stavern Construction Con-struction of Sandy, Utah began construction con-struction of five sewer lagoons about three weeks ago, in the Buckskin Hills area east of here. Sewage collected by the Valley-wide Sewer Project will be in the mile long and half mile wide lagoon ponds. Approval for letting the bid by EPA was given Tuesday of this week and paper work involved in the the ponds will be used to treat sewage collection collec-tion from the Valley-wide Sewer Project. bid approval for the lagoon sites will be completed by the end of the week, said Russ Vernon, project engineer. Van Stavern began construction of the lagoon sites about three weeks ago anticipating an-ticipating being granted the bid by EPA. Originally the bid was awarded by the Valley-wide Sewer board to Carlson Construction Company, but Van Stavern contested it to EPA because the unit price and estimated quanitities didn't agree with the total amount on the Carlson bid. Construction east of 2500 East on the main trunk line to the lagoon site is waiting for an easement to cross the Ashley Creek. According to Doug Lawson, Sewer Board chairman, the sewage will be siphoned down into the valley, across the Ashley Creek and up the other side to the Buckskin Hills area to the lagoon site. A pump station will be constructed next to the Shirley Price residence, 2867 East 1500 South on the west side of the valley as required by EPA in case the siphon malfunctions. When completed the main trunk line will connect the lagoon ponds with the present treatment facility. Construction on the other end of the Valley-wide Sewer Project started last week as contractor Jay Tuff began installing in-stalling a line from 500 South and 1500 West to the Maeser School. Construction Construc-tion of a line along Robinwood Lane will be completed late this spring when the road will be resurfaced, Vernon said. According to Doug Lawson bids on schedules four, five and six will be let third month. These schedules include sewer lines in Maeser and along 1500 South. |
