Larry Hagman played his evil J.R. role for real while shooting 'Dallas' scenes in a restaurant. He stormed out of the place complaining there was no ventilation fans. He jumped into his car drove downtown and bought the largest fan he could find. Before resuming work, Hagman stripped to the waist and spent twenty minutes cooling off. "It's bad enough being out here in this terrible heatwave," said Hagman. "Working indoors under lights was just impossible." His girl is Maryellen Aviano, the stand-in for co-star Catherine Bach. Tom and Maryellen have been seriously involved since meeting on the 'Hazzard' set nearly a year ago and he admits they've talked of marriage. "She's the reason I'm happy," Wopat revealed. "Even though I want to be a big success in this business, sometimes I'm the happiest when I'm away from my work. I think it's important to have a normal, stable home life. I want to have a house with kids and horses. I need a solid lifestyle. Look, I know this business can make a mess of your personal life, so you have to make time for that life and work at it." . . . Police were called when burglar alarms went off at the beachfront home of the late David Janssen. It turned out the alarms were triggered by his mother Bernice, who claims she was photographing the area for evidence in her lawsuit contesting his will.
