Show HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS Do citizens have a choice? By Erma Jean Lee Dwight L. Wetenkamp, Executive Vice President of Vernal 's Chamber of Commerce wrote an editorial in the August issue of "Dinah Says", the Chamber newsletter. In this editorial he tells us about a way to make our voices heard in Washington. (In other pages you can learn how to make it heard in Vernal.) By permission of the Chamber ad-minstrative ad-minstrative assistant, I'm quoting Dwight's words: "Because you have been an active supporter of our free enterprise system, I would like to introduce in-troduce you to Citizen's Choice, the national na-tional taxpayers' lobby affiliated with, the Chamber of Commerce of the United States. A Citizen's Choice brochure has been inserted in this newsletter. "Citizen's Choice works directly for us : it is the effective voice that we as individuals in-dividuals have desperately needed in Washington, D.C. Just as the Chamber lobbies on behalf of the business community, com-munity, Citizen's Choice lobbies dir.ect-ly dir.ect-ly for each of us as citizens and taxpayers. tax-payers. Citizen's Choice works by making your voice heard on Capitol Hill. Citizen's Choice publishes an outstanding outstan-ding monthly newsletter, provides a toll-free legislative hotline for its members and alerts them in advance of critical votes in Congress. It provides the channels to make certain that its members' reaction to current legislation legisla-tion and regulatory action gets through to opinion makers. In short, Citizen's Choice members have a real impact in reducing government govern-ment spending and taxation, slowing down inflation and putting the brakes on federal bureaucrats. So please take a minute right now to complete your membership application. applica-tion. I am already a member and I hope you and members of you staff will join me, simply xerox the application form or call Paul Claassen at Citizen's Choice (202)659-3128. Citizen's Choice dues of $20 per year are the best investment you can make in your future and the future of our enterprise economy. You have proven your commitment to our market system through the Chamber of Commerce. Now I encourage en-courage you to become active as an individual." in-dividual." end of quotes. Thanks, Dwight! If your talents, interests or skills lie in the realms of agriculture, civic betterment, bet-terment, congressional action, civic health and medical, education, environmental en-vironmental policy, industrial development develop-ment chamber membership or public relations, recreation, transportation, water resources or the Vernal Area Business Ass'n for local promotions andor research and development, why not contact someone at the Chamber of Commerce, join, renew your membership, member-ship, and become a member of one of those committees? The Chamber also offers tourist information, infor-mation, group or club information for men and women, rental service for new residents, and Dinah Mites an ambassador am-bassador group for public Good Will tours and community events. A community is built of varied individuals in-dividuals and each can't possibly participate par-ticipate in or agree with every cause. Nevertheless, we can't remain isolated or irritated with each other either, or all our causes suffer. Why not, then, choose one of your members to speak for your cause in the community, in the Chamber of Commerce (who want to know problem areas this year), or even one member if all don't have the money or time to join in Citizen's Choice, and all of you can submit your ideas to one person who will in turn submit sub-mit it nationally. You do have a choice as a citizen if you have the courage to make it; if you have dedicated abilities and the knowhow to word your choice correctly; correct-ly; and if you have a calm attitude to present it pleasantly. It's hard for anyone even the best person to decide an issue correclty in an atmosphere at-mosphere of anger, so we must all use our self control and patient restraint to speak firmly, but also to speak without anger and quietly. Good luck in your future choices... Note To Interviewed Persons : This column col-umn is being done a few weeks in advance, ad-vance, so your turn is coming. I'm very excited about some of the things you've shared with me on a 'unity in the community' com-munity' level, and I appreciate all that each of you is doing to succeed in this goal. Keep up the good work, the excellent ex-cellent ideas, and the attempts to work together on things that matter to everyone. Thanks, again, and thanks for your patience with me while I learn, too.
