Show capture hosiers Lucille Phillips, Ladies Golf president, captioned Wednesday, Sept. 3, as special day for golf members, who challenged their season's experience in the 18 hole "President's Cup Tournament. Tour-nament. ' Capturing low gross with outstanding rounds of 45-50 was Nina Pease, who received a silver engraved bowl. Ginny Denton, who fired rounds of 44-47, garnered low net of 66 and received a crystal bowl. Prizes were given for longest drives to Betty Hart, No. 1 ; Fran Clark, No. 6 ; and Helen Melton, No. 8. Lorraine Higgins reluctantly captured the shortest drive on hole No. 1. Denton won closest to the pin on No. 1 when her tee shot sailed past the pin and settled approximately 10 feet above the hole. Wilma Lee claimed the closest tee shot to the pin on No. 9 with a shot approximately 5 feet pin high. Prizes were awarded for "blind holes" for various pre-arranged scoring, to Gerri Voyles, Linda Floyd and Wilma Webb. A potluck luncheon was enjoyed in the picnic area following the tour- nament. Lucille Phillips presented glassware gifts to this year's officers. Sept. 17 will mark the close of the 1980 season with a noonday luncheon and election of officers, following "Best Ball" 9 hole play. All members are urged to attend and participate in the upcoming election. Virginia Garner's team captured first place in the Coors Buffalo Belles Pro-Am, Friday. Fern Baker, Betty Hart and Judy Roberts also placed. Two professional lady golfers, Marlene Floyd and Pam Higgins held a clinic on Friday. Helen Melton pocketed third place net in the championship flight in the Coors Buffalo Belles Golf Tournament, Saturday and Sunday at the Tiara Rada Golf Course in Grand Junction, Colorado with a score of 142. Linea Hart placed fourth net in the 1st flight with a score of 142 and June Dotson placed fifth net at 143. Meb Wardell captured fifth net in the 2nd flight with a score of 153 and Elaine Gurr nabbed third place gross in the 3rd flight at 223. . |
