You can choose now between cozy comfort and reduced energy costs, or wasted energy and money this winter. If you have not already started to weatherize your home and business, now is the time to get the jump on the weather. HUNT SAFELY Every year thousands of dollars are literally wasted due to careless or deliverate firearm damage to electrical elec-trical wires, poles, insulators, transformers tran-sformers and other utility equipment. The cost of repair or replacement comes out of the pocket of each utility customer. More important, lives and property are directly threatened by downed lines, resulting fires, power outages and the task of repair. Be responsible with firearms, and see that your children are, too. Report any damage you see, and any situation where someone is committing the illegal, wasteful act of vandalism. SAFETY TIPS Electrical fires are categorized as Class C. Fighting them calls for use of carbon dioxide (C02) or dry chemical extinguishers. Water should never be used because of the serious damage of electic shock. You play it safe when you have a good fire extinguisher in your home, but you can play it even safer by abiding by the common-sense rules that take the hazards out of electrical living. Do not leave irons or other heaM appliances plugged in when not in use or when no one is present. Never touch, kick, pull or attempt to pick up a fallen power line. Even a telephone wire could be deadly if tangled with a power line . some distance away. Notify your electric utility and keep other people away until utility repair people arrive. |
