The Uintah Utes will dosEn ditd feoff lb II wqf The Union Cougars broke Uintah's four game winning streak over the Cougars with a 22 to 12 victory over the Utes last season in a game that took two days because of a power failure on Friday, Fri-day, October 13, 1978. The 1979 Utes will attempt to gain a one game winning streak against the Cougars when they take on Union in Roosevelt, Friday at 7:30 p:m. Union defeated Uintah, 34 to 13 in 1973 and then the Utes won four straight games from 1974 to 1977 before Union ended the string with a 22-12 win over the Utes in 1978. "Union has a real good ball club, and they are big. Kerry Eldredge is a good running back. It will be a good game and it is always a good rivalry. I hope that we will be better prepared for the game with Union than we were for Lehi," state Uintah coach, Curg Belcher. Possible quarterback starters for Uintah in the game with Union will be Marty McCarrel, Jeff Good or Burke Buckalew. Offensive starters in the game with Lehi last week were: Marty McCarrel, quarterback; Clark Mc-Clellan, Mc-Clellan, Dave Emery, running backs; Burke Buckalew, wingback; Dave Stone, end; Lynn Reynolds, split end; Kim Reid, Brent Hales, guards; Lonnie Williams. Ron Ellis, tackles and Art Daley, center. Curg Belcher remarked that he was going to make some changes in the starting lineup for the game with Union. Union's coach, Jay Omer, remarked, ."It will be a tough game. Due to our win over Bear River, our kids are really looking forward to the game with Uintah. Uin-tah. The Ute's third pre-season game will be an encounter against the Wolves in Green River, Wyoming, September 14 at 7:30 p.m. Uintah's junior varsity will also battle the Wolves on September 14. Roger Freeborn is the new coach at Green River High School this year. He replaced Duane Freeman, Freeborn remarked that his team isn't going to overpower anybody and Green River will have to work on timing and execution. execu-tion. The Uintah Utes will battle Green Freeborn, will probably be the middle guard starter. The Utes will begin region action on September 21 in a homecoming game against Tooele. The Buffaloes were the only team Uintah defeated last year. Other varsity games are as follows: Uintah at Cyprus, September 27; Uintah Uin-tah at Judge Memorial, October 4; Murray at Uintah, October 18 and Jordan Jor-dan at Uintah, October 24. Tooele was bombed by South High School in a pre-season game, Friday, 41 to 7. Judge Memorial nipped 4-A power, West High School, 7-0 in overtime. Davis High School toppled Murray, 20 to 14 in a close encounter. Woods Cross crushed Cyprus, 21 to 6 and Alta thumped Jordan, 27 to 0. Judge won its game in overtime when Scott Theel hit Ray Zaelit with a 10-yard scoring pass and Matt Larabee added the extra point. Uintah's sophomore team will take on the Buffaloes in Tooele on September 20. Other sophomore games are as follows: Cyprus at Uintah, September 27; Judge Memorial at Uintah, October 4; Uintah at Murray, October 17 and Uintah at Jordan, October 23. The Uintah Uin-tah junior varsity team will battle Alta-mont Alta-mont on the road, September 22. River, Wyoming, on September 14 and will host Tooele in a homecoming encounter, September 21. |
