Show A NARROW ESCAPE. A few days since, a party of ladies and gentlemen - eight in number took a trip by team up Logan Canyon. After advancing several miles by the road, some one suggested that they should cross the river, reach the other side of the canyon and examine some mining prospects. Not withstanding the fact that the stream was deep and swift, this attempt was made. But no sooner that the vehicle fairly entered the water than footing was lost, and the horses and wagon, with the precious freight of human beings, were floated away by the turbulent current. The box of the wagon rapidly filled with water, and it seemed that all must sink to the bottom. But providentially after they had been carried about 60 yards, shallow water was reached and with great (??? unreadable) . Then because it was impossible to again ford the river, the party had to accomplish the toilsome ascent of the mountain, and proceed along a ridge until a crossing was found at a mill further up the canyon. They returned to this city about 9 o'clock in the evening - all tired, wet and hungry, but all thankful for their miraculous preservation from death. |
