Show U. & N. NOTES. The high water in Snake River this summer has caused considerable damage to the Utah & Northern. A levee of five or six miles in length has been built under the supervision of J. H. Martineau, Esq. (Esquire) to prevent any injury to the grade by the water. A break in this recently caused a washout on the road, and the destruction of a bridge, which made it necessary to transfer passengers for two days. A large force of men and teams were put to work to repair the break, and trains were enabled to run again. Yesterday a second occurrence of the kind made it necessary to transfer passengers once again. Three new engines have lately arrived and will immediately be brought into good use. A great deal of machinery is passing over the road the present season, bound mainly for mines in the north. Yesterday two very large steam engine boilers with attachments were to be seen on the freight train. |
