Show COAL. We clip from the Junction that a few years ago the Central Pacific Railroad Company made an offer of $30,000 for the discovery of coal in paying quantities within 30 miles of their line, and $50,00 if within 20 miles, but until a recent date none had been found. The fortunate persons are Heber E. Kimball & Co. (Company) of Salt Lake. Eight miles this side of the Nevada line and 25 miles from the Central Pacific road they have found a vein seven feet thick and of fine quality. The agent of the Central Pacific has tested it and called it a splendid quality of coal. Especially is it fine for coke. The nearest point to the mine is a little place called Lutine, near Grouse Creek. The owners we understand think they have something worth more than $30,000, and do not intend to accept the offer of the Central Pacific. They claim on account of its coking qualities that it will be of immense value to the smelters of Nevada and Utah. |
