Show SPOTTED FEVER CONFERENCE Government Apprehensive Over Disease Dis-ease Caused by Tick Rite. So serious . is the menace of rabies and Rocky Mountain spotted fever in the west that Surgeon General Rupert Blue of the federal health department de-partment in response to requests from Dr. T. B. Beatty, secretary of the Utah state board of health, representing rep-resenting not only this state but other western commonwealths, has called a conference of state and territorial ter-ritorial health authorities. "This is the second conference of the kind to be called," said Dr. Beatty. Beat-ty. "The first was to fight the bubonic bu-bonic plague and was held in San Francisco. It requires the request of five states to convince the federal government of the necessity .of such a conference. We had no difficulty in meeting this requirement. The coming session is called for all the states west of the Mississippi river." Surgeon Blue's wire to Dr. Beatty said: "In compliance with your request I have isued a call for a conference I of state and territorial health authorities au-thorities at Salt Lake, February 2, to consider the rabies, Ro'cky Mountain Moun-tain spotted fever and other public health matters. "On account of the importance of the situation. I deem it necessary to give the various states sufficient; time to send delegates. This is the1 reason for placing the date later than your communication reouested. Governor William Spry Is In receipt re-ceipt of the following telegram from Gov. Emmett D. Boyle of Nevada: "A conference of all. county, state end federal official has been called to be held at Wlnnemucca Tuesday, January 11, at 10 a. m., to discuss the matter of rabies. Will you be represented that the measures which we take and the reasons for them may be known to you? We believe that uniformity' of state action is I exceedingly desirable." |
