Show HOI ABOUT II HOSPITAL Our neighbors in Carbon County are applying for $110,000 to build a hospital. Whether this has yet been approved or not we do not , know, but according to late reports -it probably will be. This is to come from the Public Works Ad- ministration money, under the head of self liquidating projects. Why not Duchesne? We need a hospital, and could easily support sup-port one. A very hasty checkup on some of the facts with the Local Lo-cal Physician, Dr. Leon H. Cline reveals the following facts and figures: During the past 24 months he has taken to Salt Lake hospitals 44 Major Operations, 15 Minor Operations and 13 Medical cases The hospital fees on these cases alone, at the lowest possible figures fig-ures come to about $4500.00. There have also been 12 accidents cases requiring hospitalization. During the same period he has taken care of 100 Obstetrical cases, at least half of which would have come to a hospital if one were available, with fees amounting to $1500.00. There is $6000 in fees alone for the hospital. Add to this the rental rent-al the Physician and Dentist would be willing to pay for offices, and you have plenty to operate the hospital, hos-pital, and these figures are based cm cases actually going to one doctor doc-tor now, to be taken to Salt Lake City. How many go directly there, or to some other city, without calling call-ing on the local doctor, who would .stay here If there were proper accomodations ac-comodations ? Probably as many more. Another angle. With every case going out of the Basin there are an average of two relatives or friends going along. If these two people stay in Salt Lake a week, or until all danger is passed, and spend $2.00 a day per person we have an additional $30.00 per case, or $2100.00 which has left our community, which again could probably be doubled if the cases of which we have no check are ' counted,. .,' . .r,.., ... - , Then' there are .travehng.expen;? ses, 'to and from Salt ' Lake on which $25.00 is a low figure, or $1750.00 for the 70 cases, and the loss or damage to crops, or what not, while Father, Mother or other members, of the family are away with the sick one. Adding these figures up we have a total of $9850.00 which we know has left our community during the past 2 years. If we could check on them all, probably the amount would be double, or $10,000.00 a year. We ask you fellow citizens, Is this worth thinking about? You Merchants, Druggists, Grocerymen Hotel Keepers, Garage and Service men. Restaurant owners, all of you who would share in this money, is it worth thinking about? We think it is. And you fellow citizens who pay these bills,, Would you not rather have a hospital close within with-in reach, when a few hours time often means the big difference, Would you not rather keep your money in your own town or country count-ry to help pay taxes here? We think you would. Alright, let's ask our Council to look into it, and right away. $10,-000 $10,-000 to $15,000 will build plenty of Hospital. Of this amount 30 percent per-cent would be a Federal grant, the remainder to be paid back over a period of 18 years with a low rate of interest. Under good management manage-ment thse payments can easily come out of the revenue. Why wait? If anyone can see a falacy in these arguments, we are hero to be shown, If not, let's go! |
