Show Delegation Meets County School Board A clellgation from the North Country, met with the Duchesne County School Board at their regular reg-ular meeting Tuesday, to urge a building program. Asking primarily that a new High School be constructed at or near one of the towns represented, deligates from Mt. Emmons, Al-tonah, Al-tonah, Bluebell, Mtn. Home, and Boneta, presented their request at the regular School Board meeting in Duchesne Tuesday. It was urged that the school board make application for a loan, tentatively set at $150,000 to finance fin-ance a building -program. It was suggested that the money be borrowed bor-rowed from the Public Works Administration Ad-ministration Funds," taking advantage advant-age of the outright grant of 30 per cent on these loans. Leslie Maxwell of Altonah, act' ed as spokesman for the deligation which was sponsored by himself, Mr. Chester Hartman of Mt. Emmons, Em-mons, and Leslie D. Goodrich of Bluebell. It was brought out that there are 141 students enrolled in the Central High, including Jr. and Sr. High Schools, now housed in the Mt. Emmons Ward Hall. The deligation maintained that this number justified the building of a High School, properly constructed con-structed for the purpose. President, Ira B. Cannon, spoke for the board, reminding the deligation delig-ation that thers was not the anly housing problem in the district. He pointed out that if the board were to make application for a Federal Loan, the project would need the whole hearted support of the entire district, not only in making the application, but insuring insur-ing the proper attitude when the time comes to repay the loan. School houses are being rented at Talmage, Basin, Farm Creek, and for Gymnasium work at Duchesne. Du-chesne. Each of- these cases need attention as well as the Central Hgh School problem. Papers were hastily prepared, and the members of the deligation asked to sign them for their respective res-pective communities, pledging their individual support to the movement. They were then in-structed in-structed to take the papers to their communities with them, and endeavor en-deavor to get signitures from all property owners. Similar papers are to be sent out to all the communities, and if enough en-ough support is shown the Board will then attempt to make a large enough loan to launch a building program to take care of all the present needs of the district. Included In-cluded in these needs new High School building to replace the building now used at Roosevelt was mentioned. Description as to the number and location of the schools is to be left to the members of the Board, everyone of whom, according to Pres. Cannon are well aware of the housing necessities in the district. Mention was also made of the need of another teacher at the High School, and it was stated that this matter is being taken care of by Supt C. M. Iverson, Aproximately 100 people were in attendance at the meeting, a partial count being as follows: Mt. Emmons, 30; Bluebell , 10; Altonah, 17; Boneta, 14; and Mtn. Home 1. |
