Algom Corporation's Lisbon operation since 1971, was honored with a retirement retire-ment dinner at the SunDown-er SunDown-er Restaurant Friday, Nov. 4. Bob Pattison, maintenance supervisor, opened the ceremonies cere-monies with a speech and a message from Merv Lawton, general manager. Mr. 'Law-ton, 'Law-ton, who was on vacation, was unable to attend the dinner. Before coming to Rio Algom in 1971 Bill Griffiths was the plant superintendent of the Idarado mining operation in Guray, Colorado for 27 years. He has experience in the fields of electronics, mechanics mechan-ics and hydraulics and has also headed a mechanic training program. Mr. Pattison praised Bill's good work as Chief Electrician Electri-cian at the Lisbon mine, particularly in regards to the hoist within the mine itself. The hoist, which carries men and ore out of the mine, initially had a lot of problems that needed to be worked out. Mr. Pattison commented that Bill worked on them one by one, "very systematically, ve ry calmly." He also stated that Bill had been "a terrific asset" to the company and that his expertise would be missed. Mr. Griffiths was then presented pre-sented with a gift of a mantle clock from Rio Algom Corp. Representing the geology, surveying, and engineering departments, Bob Sullivan, Chief Engineer, gave Bill a souvenir rock from mino with an engraved nameplate. Terry Ter-ry Warner, electrical foreman, fore-man, also made a short speech and gave Mr. Griffiths a sophisticated calculator which was a gift from the electrical crew at the mine. Speeches from Bill's coworkers co-workers and friends followed. They told stories and expressed expres-sed their thanks for the knowledgeable advice they always could expect from him. Dutch Zimmerman, safety safe-ty supervisor, said of Bill, "For him, there's never a time not to learn," and of Bill's philosophy, "To stay youthful, stay useful." Bill and his wife, Mary both expressed their gratitude and their hopes for an enjoyable retirement. |
