Show Hearing on animal control scheduled for Nov. 15 A public hearing has been set for Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. to consider a proposed Animal Control Ordinance Ordin-ance for Grand County. Interested citizens are asked to come to the Grand County Courtroom at that time and express their opinions. Copies of the proposed ordinance ordin-ance may be obtained from the Grand County Clerk. The ordinance names the Sheriff as ex-officio poundkeeper and charges him with the responsibility responsi-bility of impounding and disposal of stray animals in accordance with the terms of the Utah Code. If adopted, the ordinance will prohibit dogs running at large, which is defined as "A dog off the premises of the owner and not under the immediate control of the owner or persons acting for the owner either by leash, cord, chain or other device, or at heel obedient to command." The proposed ordinance requires re-quires every dog in the county to have a collar or harness and to be licensed. The license fees would be $2 for a desexed dog, $7.50 for an uncastrated male dog and $15 for an unspayed female dog. Rabies vaccinations are also required. Provisions are also included for confinement of dogs biting persons, with the owner of the dog bearing all costs. Dogs biting persons two or more times in three years would be excluded from the county, under the terms of the proposed ordinance. ordin-ance. The ordinance would also make it illegal to wilfully kill or injure dogs with a vehicle, and prohibits cruelty to any animals. It calls for formal record keeping by the county clerk on all dogs in the county, and limits residents to no more than 2 dogs on one premises.
