Show r r- . Laurie Hetxrl Laurie Hetzel is Utah's national 4-H rep. Laurie Hctzcl. daughter of Louise Hetzel of Moab, will represent Utah at the National Nation-al 4-H Club Congress in Chicago, Chi-cago, Illinois, November 26 to December 1. aa state winner in the 4-H Veterinary Science program. Laurie has completed 6 years in 4-H and completed phases in knitting, flowers and floral arranging, garden projects, food nutrition, rock and minerals, photography, forestry, music, sea shells, cat and dog care, 4 H Japanese Exchange, Junior 4 H leader, and dog care leader this year. She is 16 years old and a junior at Grand County High School, and plans to continue with Veterinary Science when she graduates. She will join twenty other Utah winning 4-H delegates and four adult leaders as they leave for Chicago by plane the day after Thanksgiving and return Dec. 2. They will participate with about 1,200 delegates from throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Elizabeth Gorham, state 4-H specialist, Utah State University Extension Service, said, 'The Utah group will take a bus tour of Chicago and tour of the Museum of Science and Industry, enjoy special entertainment, participate in formal meals and rap sessions with sponsor donor organizations organiza-tions and join in discussions on jobs and careers and energy concerns." Laurie's sponsor for the 4 H Veterinary Science program prog-ram is Upjohn Laboratories. She is one of only 18 sponsored sponsor-ed in Veterinary Science in the nation. Utah has 3,500 4-H members mem-bers enrolled. 4-H is one of the largest youth serving organizations organi-zations in the United States. Currently more than 5.8 mil- r lion boys and girls, 9-19 years a of age participate in 4-H. It is I an educational and character I building program keyed to the " development of boys and girls. Through informal learning-by-doing projects and activities ac-tivities programs, 4-H helps youth to establish real life goals and to become competent, compe-tent, productive citizens. The youth enrolled in 4-H choose from a variety of projects and activities suited to their own interests and needs. They also participate in group and community com-munity activities. w |
