Show Green River Resident Killed in Car Wreck Gordon J. Kobertson, a resident of Green River, Riv-er, was killed Sunday evening when his stalled car was struck by an Apache Tankline truck near the Mobil Station in Green River. Investigating officer James Sauls of the Utah Highway Patrol reported that Mr. Robertson stopped stop-ped for the sign on Solomon Sol-omon street and as he pulled out onto Highway 50-6, his car stalled in the right-hand landof the eastbound traffic. He saw the truck approaching ap-proaching and stepped out of the car to flag it around. Apparently the truck driver did not see Robertson and the truck hit the left side of the 1966 Dodge spinning it around and throwing Mr. Robertson under the wheels of the tanker. Both Mrs. Robertson, and their son Lee, 5; were thrown from the car by the force of the impact. Mrs. Robertson received a cut on her head and one on her leg, although the son was not injured. Both were taken to Allen Memorial Hospital by Green River ambulance. Trooper Sauls reported report-ed that when he arrived at the scene, Mrs. Robertson Rob-ertson had been taken to a nearby house. Trooper Sauls went to check on Mrs. Robertson. Robert-son. He was then informed inform-ed that the driver of the truck, Norman Rouse, 47, of Salt Lake City was leaving the scene of the accident. Sauls followed Rouse in the patrol car and stopped him inside the Grand County line about half a mile from the scene of theaccident. An arrest was then made for DWI and Rouse was brought to the Grand County jail. He appeared before Judge Donald Crist on Monday and entered en-tered a plea of guilty and was fined $200 and 40 days with 35 days suspended on payment of the fine. Charges in Emery County, where the accident occurred are still pending. The Robertsons have lived in Green River since last fall when he took over duties as the school custodian. They were members of the LDS Church and were active in the community. |
