Show Patrol Reports Activities In Year-End Wind-Up Year end reports were made this week by Highway High-way Patrol officers ' in District L, which is made up of Grand, San Juan and part of Emery County. Sgt. Ralph Benson stated that the nine men in the district worked a total of 18,641 hours, with 273 of those on overtime. A total of 221 accidents accid-ents were reported in the area with 119 of them, causing property damage, dam-age, 90 caused personal injury, and there were 16 fatal accidents leav-ing leav-ing 21 persons dead. Of the fatal accidents, four occurred in Grand County with four persons killed. Two of those accidents ac-cidents were investigated investigat-ed by the Highway Patrol, Pat-rol, one by the Grand County Sheriff's office and 1 by the City Police department. Four fatal accidents were also reported re-ported in Emery County with 5 people killed. San Juan County listed the largest number of deaths with 8 accidents killing . a total of 12 people. Of this number, five were investigated by the Highway High-way Patrol and three by the San Juan County Sheriff's She-riff's Department. Causes listed for the fatal accidents were 10 for driving under the influence of intoxicants; 3, falling asleep; 1 speed too fast on a curve and 1 unknown. Total economic loss estimated by the Patrol in the 221 accidents in the district was $398,-040. $398,-040. During the year, 4,709 arrest citations were issued, along with 719 warning citations. There were 140 arrests for DWI, 87 for possession of a controlled substance and 24 for operation of 12 stolen automobiles. Arrests made with the new radar unit installed instal-led by the Patrol totalled total-led 576. In the district, 264,-415 264,-415 miles were driven by the nine officers at a total operating cost of $8,866. |
