Show - a busy first week State Rep. Cal Black of Blanding, who represents repre-sents a number of rural I'tah counties just south and west of Grand County, has started his legislative legisla-tive career with a big push for a number of items of importance to all of Southeastern Utah. Cal goes into the Legislature with a considerable (if somewhat controversial) background in governmental govern-mental affairs. An outspoken County Commissioner in San Juan County for several years and an effective effec-tive spokesman for many communities in this part of Utah in the halls of the Legislature, State agencies agen-cies and the Federal Congress, Mr. Black is well versed in his subject matter. A number of items now being promoted by the new legislator have real merit. In letters to Gov. Calvin L. Rampton, he urged the chief executive's support in bringing them to fruition. We urge him to go one step further: Cal should immediately get the ideas drafted into legislative form and get them into the legislative legis-lative mill as quickly as possible. We are sure that once introduced, they will get the enthusiastic support sup-port from residents of this area, as well as from many legislative personalities even many from the metropolitan areas of the state. |
