Show Ti ; Active Drill Rigs in Utah At New 16 Year High Oil and gas drilling rigs at work in the United States as the month of April opened numbered 1,904 according to the Hughes Tool company weekly census notes Carlton Stowe, minerals specialist, Department of Natural Resources. Re-sources. A statistical analysis by Petroleum Information Corporation Cor-poration shows that this is 374 above the count a year ago, a gain of 15 from a week ago, and a rate of activity not tabulated in the U.S. since 1961. The high domestic count in 1961 was 2,036 but this is the first time in the intervening interven-ing 16 years that rotary activity achieved the 1,900 level. The western states, with a current count of 252, is contributing a little more than 13 per cent of the domestic activity. The Rocky Mountain region count is down one from the previous week but up 79 from the comparable date in 1976. Drill rig activity in Utah is. currently at a steady pace with 26 rotaries at work. This is down slightly from the 28 at work a month ago, but considerably consid-erably more than the 18 active at this time a year ago, says Mr. Stowe. Pineview field gets its 11th producer this week with the completion of the Camplin Petroleum No. 1-42-9 Newton Sheep Co. well. It flowed ' 1,230 barrels of oil and 843,000 cubic feet of gas from 10, 168 feet. All development wells at the field so far have been successful. Six exploratory wells are drilling in Summit County and also a deep development de-velopment well is nearing final objective at Pineview. There are also four "wildcat" wells in Rich County where one is drilling below 4,000 feet just south and east of Bear Lake. Three wells are drilling in Duchesne County, one each at Bluebell, Altamont and Cedar Rim fields - north and northwest north-west of Roosevelt and west of the town of Duchesne. Three additional wells in the field areas are in the final completion comple-tion work stages. Several wells are active in the Red Wash, Natural Buttes, Won-sits Won-sits Valley and Island fields, south, southeast and east of Vernal. In the southeastern part of Utah, Grand County drilling activity presently holds most interest. Several wells are at total depth with completion work in progress as well as 29 well-site locations waiting to be drilled. Work is scheduled in the Bar-X, Stateline, Har-ley Har-ley Dome, Cisco Springs, Sei-. Sei-. ber. Nose, Gravel Pile and Cisco areas. A deep projected 18,000 foot test well is drilling below 6,000 feet a few miles east of Crescent Junction. It is being drilled by Mobil Oil at the No. C-l McCormick. Some 19 locations are scheduled in the Aneth and White Mesa fields south of Blanding. |
